When I launched this website recently I decided to try google adwords to help people find me. After adding ‘lgbt therapy’ to my key words I was saddened to see people finding this website through a range of variations of ‘conversion therapy’.

Just to be clear, that’s not the kind of therapy I offer here.   I’m an LGBTQ+ affirmative counsellor. I think conversion therapy is barbaric and abusive.

If you found this website looking for conversion therapy, I’m sorry. I’m sorry that whatever you’ve experienced has led you to this point.  I hope that you’ll find safety and a community of people who will accept you for who you are.  I know they are out there.  Stonewall has a resource of further support listed here.

If you’re looking for this for someone you love, please know this isn’t the way to support them.  This is a route that’ll cause them immense pain and suffering and it’s not ok.

The scale of conversion therapy is sobering, according to Stonewall 7% of LGBTQ+ people have been offered or undergone conversion it.

Some people believe that because there are more LGBTQ+ people on tv now and gay marriage is legal, everything is fine. Yes, there has definitely been progress and yes, it’s definitely worth celebrating that.  But there’s still a lot to do; holding the UK government accountable to their promise for a legislative ban on conversion therapy is a good start.
